HPD teams compete at K-9 Olympics

Members of the Hopkinsville K-9 Unit competed in the 2017 K-9 Olympics hosted by American Working Dogs in Denver, Indiana.

About 100 competitors from across the United States and five different countries competed. They were judged in areas of Narcotic Detection, Criminal Apprehension and Obedience.

As a unit, the Hopkinsville K-9 teams placed in the top 10 Best Teams for Narcotic Detection. Officer Timothy Merrick and his partner K-9 Bowy received special recognition for placing 1st in Warehouse Narcotic Detection, 3rd place in Narcotic Building Detection, and 3rd place in Hogan’s Alley, which is a scenario that tests the team’s ability to transition from Narcotic Detection to Search and Rescue to Criminal Apprehension in a short period of time.
